THE ENTREPRENEURIAL MINDSET: ILARA-MOKIN AS A PACKAGE TOUR DESTINATION
Ilara-Mokin considered, on investment thoughts and potential, may yet turn out, one of the luckiest most developed small towns in Ondo State.
Located in the southwestern part of Nigeria, Ilara-Mokin is
gradually looking to be turned into a tourist destination. First on the alluring list is the Work
n Play promotions yearly scheduled motorsports on a newly built Motorsports 'on and off-road tracks' roads, the first in Nigeria. Naturally, Ilara-Mokin With its
lush greenery, undulating hills, and serene environment, is blessed with
natural resources that can make it an excellent package tour destination.
It was interesting to hear Mr Ade Ojuoko, the CEO of Work n
Play laud the town and these potential package holiday places in a recent
sitting. Hear him, ‘Ilara-Mokin is home to several notable natural attractions,
including the scenic Smokin Hills Golf Course, the picturesque Idanre Hills,
the mesmerizing Oke-Idanre Natural Park, and the breathtaking Owa Waterfall.’ ‘These
attractions are just a few of the many reasons why Ilara-Mokin should be on the
list of every traveller seeking an experience of a unique and naturally blessed
environment,’ he concluded.
To turn Ilara-Mokin into a package tourism destination,
however, the state and local governments need to wake up to their
responsibilities by investing in infrastructural development. Better road
networks, adequate electricity, and a clean water supply all of which are
essential for the growth of the tourism industry. The government can partner
with private investors to fund these projects, further creating job
opportunities for the locals.
Additionally, the government can organize cultural festivals
and events to showcase the town's rich cultural heritage as was done during the
last 2023, 6th Ondo Motor Rally. Additionally, events such as the colourful 'Ijesu' Festival, which is celebrated in reverence and honour of the town's new yam, can also be
used as a platform to promote tourism. This will attract tourists and promote
the town's culture and tradition.
Furthermore, the government can collaborate with tour
operators and travel agencies to create tour packages that highlight the town's
attractions. These packages can include visits to the Idanre Hills, Oke-Idanre
Natural Park, and Owa Waterfall, as well as other nearby towns with notable tourist
attractions.
To boost the town's tourism industry, the government can
also invest in the hospitality sector by building and upgrading hotels, lodges,
and other accommodation facilities. This will provide tourists with comfortable
and affordable accommodation options, increasing their length of stay.
No doubt, Ilara-Mokin has the potential to become a package
tourism destination. The town is blessed with natural resources and cultural
heritage that can attract visitors worldwide. The Motorsports and golf course
are all attractive additions to the natural beauties of Ilara-Mokin as a
destination place to visit. However, the government also needs to invest in
infrastructure development, cultural festivals, tour packages, and hospitality
facilities to tap into the town's potential. By doing so, Ilara-Mokin will not only
become a major tourist destination but also create job opportunities for the
locals and contribute to the economic development of the state.
