So, why do you need to mind your language? Do you know how it is that things you say can have an impact on people around you as well as your wellbeing and growth? Have you seriously given thoughts to the fact that the language you use in your social life is very, very crucial in building or destroying your relationship, on occasion irreparably? Often, we do not give deep thoughts to the implications of what we say to others and their impact. We would not see in most circumstances that our language is a part instance of the overall production of meanings in our social relationship. But they are and crucial and critical aspects of our relationship. The use of language is much more than a matter of employment either when it is applied in talk or writing per se. The use of language can build or chisel the foundational blocks of any and every relationship. And, that use as part of the discussion is what I intend to analyze here as discourse. Today, 45 years ago, 29th of July 1975 was a coup that ousted one of many Generals (rank not earned by the years in military service, exceptional deeds, striking, celebrated intelligent world-wide military strategic contributions or valour in battle) who acted as Heads of States in Nigeria. When I was in England, once in awhile someone would ask, “Where are you from?” At first, it was not strange because such a question back in Nigeria was meant to know what tribe or region one belongs. This morning, I confessed to a lady whose husband had gone through some harrowing challenges that, I never knew that she had in her, such strength and staying power to nurse her husband back to health. I called her an incredible, unbelievable and amazing woman. I did all that because I had all along, always felt she was the one needing help. I thought that without her husband, her life would be very challenging, if not impossible for her to move around. And, I really, really feared and felt sorry for her when her darling husband took ill. He has fully recovered now and convalescing when we had our conversation. She told me how in the past four months, she had single handedly cared for all his needs; feeding, bathing, attending to his fecal matter, etc. Don't get me wrong, I am aware the female gender, human and animal, are made by God-mysteriously of unequal strength, patience, perseverance, accommodation, balance, stability, stoicism, reticence, etc. All strength of character most
