THE #WORKANDPLAY PROMOTION RALLY IS SET TO GO IN 14 DAYS! ARE YOU READY?!!
People! Race
fans, motor buffs, holiday get-away seekers, W&P workgroups and players, are
you all packed with everything that is needed for the 8th, April
2023 Ondo Motor rally?!!!
As with Work
& Play Promotions' regular race rallies, everyone, from corporate
organisations to individuals; VIP or not, is bound to enjoy a day out on and
off the tracks with expertly prepared activities. Outside the performance of watching
a fine mix of handling powerful top-speed motors and bikes with deftness, which is guaranteed to last long in the memory of all who experience it, ‘do know, and I
guarantee this,’ says the event organising CEO, Ade Ojuoko, ‘that regardless of
who you are, whether you are a Motorsports novice, busy executive looking for a
get-away fun, simply a speed buff or experienced racer the 6th Ondo
race rally is tailored to your fun-day, happiness, amusement, relaxation and
enjoyment.’
Also
guaranteed to feature, I gathered from speaking with the CEO, will include
after workday racing hospitality party-like atmosphere with music, barbecue,
dance and plenty of wine and different foods and socialization seasonings.
So, though the
total picture of events/checklist has not arrived at my desk as of this morn,
from memory, attendance and information I gathered so far, I know what standard
the CEO of Work and Play promotions, expects. For all and sundry involved,
therefore, we do not want to arrive at Ilara-Mokin, the venue of the 6th
festival to discover that we have overlooked any vital item that we just can’t do
without!
Can that
happen, yeah, sure you bet, It can happen as sure as daylight the next day and
does occur all too often when we get distracted by the mad dash as part last-minute
run-in, preparatory to heading out in 14 days. So, to help save your sanity, I
have put up a pre-going away to Ilara-Mokin checklist to save us from the outcome
that may then turn into unnecessary stress with likely consequences or bearing
on the rally’s full fun.
Accordingly,
in a bid to ensure that no unnecessary frustrating and, or embarrassing chapters
crop up, this article is in support of the CEO, on his pre-plan of action chat
group’s constant calls for updates on where are we (WAW) with all sections of the
preparations. Here below are some useful checklists to help you make sure that
you have packed absolutely everything that you could need for Ilara-Mokin, Ondo,
come, 7/8th of April 2023. Remember, only fourteen days from today!!

WORKGROUPS PARAPHERNALIA:
Every event,
no matter how simple or intricate, entails planning from the budget, and ground
preparations to equipment supplies, handling and spares, inclusive of service
Items from the all-important essentials like fuel, tyres and consumables, conveniences,
hotel bookings, tags, generators, ushers to visiting VIPs, those to serve
guests, the readiness of all performing artists, food and drinks, cameras and cameramen,
groundsmen/women, traffic wardens, adverts and direction signage, MCs, Discjokeys,
musical items, speakers, transportation, etc, down to all those items that can
make the difference in the execution for the racing as tyre pressure gauges,
alignment tools, lap timers, socket sets, screwdrivers and spanners all catered
for, etc. And for the holidaymakers’ personal effects and information;
accommodation, items of clothing, shoes, (if camping, chairs, barbecue stuff,
wash place). We should also not forget items such as spare parts for broken-down
vehicles, Spare Fluids or coolants.
Then for the
electrical and electronics, having the right tool for the job from inputting
data to editing and final production, and getting the right items when you need
them is part of making sure that your support for the race goes as smoothly as
possible. Of course, this can only happen if you remember to bring all pieces
of equipment and the tools with you! the checkpoint subheads or coordinators,
same as in other units and sections are to ensure all items for recording are charged
as there is nothing worse than getting to the occasion day, and finding that
you have batteries not up to scratch to do the work. The same applies to the
technologist; what equipment are you going to Ondo with? Are they ready,
computers, printers, software, etc? So, hopefully, this will be able to serve
as a reminder before the expected checklist is out for all to check and tick indicating
we are ready and done to go.
To the All-important
centrepiece of the festival, the Drivers, are you ready!! For the rallying
drivers. All your racing equipment is of the essence and an essential part of
your overall race day objectives, as without a helmet or suit you are not ready.
We all know as any race driver truly worthy of their profession would attest to,
the obvious and common items such as the race suit, boots and gloves are
usually items that they would not likely forget, preparatory, they are always
packed, ready for use, and are rarely forgotten. However, some other smaller
but equally essential health and safety items including earplugs, goggles,
drinks bottles, etc can often be overlooked.
In rallies,
ensuring an appropriate level of safety is particularly challenging for all
those involved.
Work &
Play Promotions, the motor rally event organizers recognise the challenging
task of such rallies and so have guidelines and other information which are constantly
being updated and researched for new solutions to increase the protection of
the rally crews and the awareness of all crowds involved.
To the above
end, given that the tracks run close to the environment that has people wanting
to encroach on the racing tracks at some stage of the race and given the speed
of the cars and little reaction time, I asked the race Health and Safety
Director, Clement Falayi, what measure on health and safety are in place? ‘The
nature of the event warrants that we have all safety measures to safely guide
the people put in place and carefully monitored according to the obstacles of any
of the stages concerned.’ He opined. Then, continued, ‘because there are so
many spectators, it is important to have health and safety equipment such as first
Aid necessities, and defibrillators as well as health personnel on hand and
standing by throughout all the stages as it is crucial, as we would do, inform
all spectators to remain in safe areas at all times.’
Then again, the
rally checklist ought also to include essential items that are necessary for
use inside the cars, such as guaranteed bright lights on the dashboard, trip
meter and pace note as well as important items for use in the event of an
incident including an extinguisher, warning triangle and spill kit. This means
that you can be ready for any eventuality along with complying with all the
relevant rally W&P health and safety regulations.
Add-ons:
There will
always be some checklist of items that you will require that is unique to you
or your racing routine and requirements that may not be covered by this article,
all of which point to the exquisiteness of Motorsport. The diversity of needs
makes it important that preparations bring all individuals with various
backgrounds and professionalism to see that all angles are covered. So, as I
mentioned at the beginning of the write-up, you are free to add or subtract from
my list as you see fit.
